Jose and Gloria

Pastor Jose Lopez is a visionary.

He and his wife Gloria began their work in Hainamosa, in the Dominican Republic, originally a ‘barrio’ of nearly 10,000 displaced people, in the 1990’s. They focused on education as there were no schools when they arrived.

In 2005, the first teacher training workshops were held at the school they had begun, Jewels of Christ School. Jose had chosen that name because he believed every child was a gem and deserving of good education. His mantra is:

“Education is the greatest social change agent.”

The Canadian Santo Domingo team is hosted at the Lopez’ home. Jose and his wife Gloria are consummate hosts and make each team feel like family. Gloria is energetic and playful and prepares scrumptious meals. Jose is quiet, reflective and ever mindful of the teams safety and security. They make a superb team!
