There are a number of ways to share your passion, skills and talents with Teacher Mentors Abroad
Each summer a team of Canadian educators travel to work alongside Dominican educators to empower them as they improve student well-being and achievement.
This involves:
-
Pre-travel orientation and planning meetings in the spring (synchronous and asynchronous).
-
One week in the Dominican Republic (July or August) working with Dominican mentors to provide professional learning to Dominican educators
-
Four days of co-presenting workshops to groups of 40-50 local educators at one site.
-
Local excursions to learn about the people, culture, flora and fauna of this beautiful island.
-
Volunteers self-fund their travel and receive a charitable donation tax receipt. Flights, ground transportation, accommodations, and meals are included.
-
One post-travel meeting where team members reflect on their experiences and provide feedback to TMA.

What does TMA mean to me?
An opportunity to share the best of Canada’s public education with my homeland, the Dominican Republic, recognizing that every student deserves and can attain quality education when we value and invest in public education…beginning with well trained classroom teachers and skilled education leaders.
